Description:The Summer Reading Program Grant is awarded to a public library to help finance an outstanding theme-based summer reading program that is open to all children from birth through age 14, and encourages inclusion of children with physical and mental disabilities. The grant is intended to also recognize outstanding program development by the Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC) members.

To be eligible, applicants must be personal members of ALSC as well as the American Library Association (ALA) (the ALA personal membership number is required on the application). Organizational members are not eligible. Individual libraries within a larger system may apply. Requirements for the grant include holding the program in the public library, providing a theme, and presenting innovative ideas for including the target age range and children with special needs.

The application is available to access online from the award web page. The following information is required: description of the community and program target audience, how the program will work, how it will be implemented, what is creative about the program, why children will like it, why the library needs financial support for the program, how the grant will enhance the program, and an itemized budget for the program.
