|Description:||The Terra Foundation for American Art supports projects that encourage international scholarship on American art topics, as well as scholarly projects with focused theses that explore American art in an international context. Funding is available for symposia, colloquia, and scholarly convenings on American art circa 1500 through 1980.|
Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that implement projects in Chicago, Illinois, or outside the United States. Also eligible are nonprofit organizations located outside of Chicago that will conduct projects throughout the United States examining American art within an international context, or projects that will include a significant number of international participants. A summary of recently funded initiatives is posted on the website. The foundation also supports a number of arts residencies and fellowships, with application instructions posted on the website.
A Letter of Inquiry is the first step, preceding potential invitation to submit a full proposal. There are two annual grant cycles, with one for the summer and one for the fall. A timeline is provided on the website.
