Description:The Virginia Association of School Librarians (VAASL) makes School Librarian of the Year Awards that recognize an outstanding Virginia school librarian and support the honoree’s professional development. The award emphasizes the five responsibilities of a school librarian: teacher, instructional partner, leader, information specialist, and program administrator. Regional winners are candidates for the state award and must submit an updated application with contributions and accomplishments for consideration.

Eligible applicants are current VAASL members that are elementary, middle, and high school librarians in Virginia. Nominations must be submitted using the online system.
Eligibility:Public, Private, Charter
Award(s):One award of $500 toward professional development is presented to the state honoree; seven regional winners (including the state winner) receive free registration and banquet admission at VAASL’s Annual Conference.
Deadline(s):Applications are due January 31, annually.
