Description:The International Reading Association (IRA) Helen M. Robinson Grant supports dissertation research in the area of reading and literacy, with a focus on better understanding instructional interventions. Eligible applicants are doctoral students who are in the early stages of their dissertation research in the area of reading and literacy and who are IRA members. IRA membership categories are detailed on the website, and begin at $29 annually.

Applications will be reviewed using the following criteria: significance of the research question, rationale for the research, adequacy of methods, implications for practice and research, and clarity and specificity. Grant decisions will be announced in February. Grant recipient will receive recognition during the IRA annual conference in May, and will be encouraged to submit an article for publication in an IRA journal or a proposal for presentation at the annual conference. A press release will be sent to awardees’ institutional affiliations.

Applications and all materials must be submitted electronically through a web-based grant management system (Nimble Net). Detailed information regarding the application is provided on the website. A report within one year is required outlining progress toward execution or completion of the research, findings to date, and how the funding was expended.
