Description:The US Department of State, through the English Language Fellow Program, will support highly qualified US educators in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) to participate in international fellowships.

Fellowship assignments are 10 months in duration to academic institutions in Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, Near East and North Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Western Hemisphere. Fellows teach regularly scheduled courses to model and demonstrate up-to-date TEFL classroom practices, and complete projects and other professional activities sponsored by US embassies. This includes curriculum and materials development, testing and evaluation, mentoring, textbook analysis, needs assessment, teacher training, consultations, summer camps, and outreach activities for educational institutions and professionals in the local community.

Eligible applicants are US citizens with a masterís degree in TESOL or in a field related to English language teaching. Preferred qualifications are two years of experience teaching ESL/EFL, one year of experience training English language teachers or teacher trainers, a minimum of one year teaching kindergarten through grade 16 or adult students in the US education system, and demonstrated commitment to the field of English language teaching.

Award(s):Awards include a $30,000 to $35,000 stipend; living allowance that varies by country; round-trip airfare; health-care coverage; and funds to purchase educational materials. Fellows are eligible to receive a $5,000 allowance for accompanying dependents.
