Description:Fuel Up to Play 60 is a national in-school initiative to promote healthy eating and 60 minutes of physical activity daily to help encourage today’s youth to lead healthier lives. The funding program provides grants to public and private schools to support Fuel Up to Play 60 projects and activities.

Applications must include plans that engage students in raising awareness and making lasting improvements in nutrition and physical activity at school, such as ensuring that students have more opportunities to choose nutrient-rich foods throughout the school campus and to be physically active. Funding requests must be equal for both healthy eating and physical activity plans. Schools should check the funding guidelines carefully for exemptions, particularly with regard to physical activity programs.

To be eligible to apply for a grant, a school must be enrolled in Fuel Up to Play 60 for the current school year ( for information); participate in the National School Lunch Program; and have a designated Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor in the school. Note that a school may start an application before a program advisor is designated, but the advisor must be identified before submitting the funding application.

Schools that have received funds through the earlier funding cycles for the current school year may submit an application for the final funding cycle provided the school has not yet received the maximum of $4,000 per school year. Schools are eligible to apply for grants if they have received funds to support Fuel Up to Play 60 in previous years; however, activities must be different or build upon previously funded projects. Applications that describe the same activities from previous years without evidence of growth are not considered. Grant applications are available online and should be submitted online.
