Description:The ACTFL Award for Excellence in Foreign Language Instruction Using Technology with IALLT is presented annually for outstanding integration and use of technology in foreign language instruction. Classroom teachers in kindergarten through grade 12 and administrators at the kindergarten through grade 12 levels are eligible for the award. To be nominated, an educator must have a minimum of five years of teaching experience, hold current membership in ACTFL, and have been an ACTFL member for at least the last three years. Self-nominations are permitted and must be accompanied by a letter of support from the educatorís school or institutional officer.

Candidates must submit evidence of how they integrate technology into their foreign language courses. Evidence should include objectives and specific strategies using technology that contribute to the attainment of course goals within the framework of the National Standards for Foreign Languages. Supporting documentation may include letters from students, colleagues, school or institutional officers, and student course evaluations. This documentation may be submitted in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, short video, website, or other multimedia presentation. The presentation may not be more than five minutes in length, and five copies must be provided.

The nomination cover sheet is available online and must be the first page of the nominating materials, which should include the following: a nominating letter or letter of support (for self-nominations); candidateís curriculum vitae of no more than 10 pages; evidence of the use of technology in the foreign language course (presented as documents or in a multimedia format); three letters of support explaining why the candidate should be selected for the award; and other documentation as appropriate, such as local newspaper articles on class activities/innovations using technology. Each candidateís total set of materials, excluding the curriculum vitae, should not exceed 15 pages, and nominations in excess of the limit will not be accepted.
